PARQUE LURO Natural Reserve

Brief Historical Overview

For history lovers, Parque Luro (Luro Park) sets forth as an option that they can not miss. The origins of the largest hunting area in the world date back to the eighties and the “Belle Èpoque” period.
The experience will lead visitors to Pedro Luro´s building, its first proprietor. It is highly recommended the unforgettable guided tour of his residence, today “The Castle” Museum, declared National Historical Monument.

The circuit comprises a visit to “la Sala de Carruajes” (the carriage room), “el Tambo Modelo” (the model diary farm) and “el Tanque del Millón” (the million tank), remarkable constructions of the owner’s days.

Visiting the Park is an invitation to re-live a part of our land and its history.

Living nature in its full magnificence

The Reserve is an area of 7.600 ha., 1.600 of which are open to exploration. Here, it is possible to admire nature in its full splendour, while coexisting with a fauna and flora paradise.
The largest Caldén Natural Reserve in the world, with its woods, dunes and lagoon, is a symbol of a typically Pampean landscape.

A different look

The observation of different species in their natural habitat involves penetrating a variant scenery.

The Natural Reserve has about 160 species, 40 of which can be recognized, depending largely on the time and season at which the observation takes place.

Birdwatching calls for the presence of a tour guide who will conduct, select and determine the time and places appropriate for the observation.

Tourists can experience this practice any time of the year. As spring arrives, the Park is covered with bird trills, shining nuptial feathers and the flight of a re-emerging nature. With the coming of summer, new life multiplies in countless pigeons. In autumn and winter, large flocks of different species and emigrating fowls that escape from the cold mountain range, fly through the sky in seek of warm places.

A Genuine adventure

During heat time, between March and April, the greatest show is given by deers (species brought from Europe by Luro) which move towards hinds, emitting sounds known as “brama”. During this time, dominant males will pursue their harem to mate, and fight against their rivals to keep it.
