La Pampa, without doubt, was born rural. After aborigine settlers, the first white presence pursued the exploitation of natural resources: farming. Soon afterwards, the development of primary activities and "Progress" trade would gradually increase.
The growth of La Pampa towns is due to different sources: those towns derived from the military foundations that were former garrisons and towns later on, such as Victorica, first pampean town, and General Acha, founded in 1882; the populations developed spontaneously, usually near a market place located on the banks of an important road; the towns developed from the railway, most often as a result of their founders´steely determination. Eduardo Castex is one of them.
25 de mayo is an atypical case, since it was founded according to Presidential Decree. A town on the banks of a river, created for aboriginal settlement.
General Pico, is a model of the fighting spirit present at the end of last century. Its remarkable location at a railway crossing enhanced its strength and development. The decline of the railway gave way to its trade and industrial profile, for which it has always stood out.
Finally, La Pampa capital city, Santa Rosa; located in a strategic spot. Important urban and tourist center in La Pampa province.
Today, this city has a remarkable tourist infrastructure in constant growth to suit all tastes.
